Asterisk logo ideas and free files

The asterisk is a strong logo shape: simple, symmetrical, recognisable at tiny sizes, and it comes with a built-in meaning of "there's more to this". Below are eight ideas built from our free asterisk designs. Every mark links to its SVG file.

  • Count the arms deliberately. Five arms feel classic and typographic. Six feel balanced and technical. Eight or more start to read as a star or a sun.
  • Test it at 16 pixels. A logo has to work as a browser tab icon. Thin-armed designs disappear at that size, while heavy marks like Bold and Block hold up.
  • Watch the spacing to a wordmark. An asterisk next to a name reads as a footnote mark, which can be a feature ("Brand*") or a distraction. Try it both above and beside the name.
  • Give it something distinctive. A plain asterisk is a common shape, so it's hard to make it yours alone. Pair it with a distinctive name, colour or treatment. If you plan to register a trademark, talk to a trademark attorney before you commit.
  • Pick the colour last. Get the shape working in black first. Colour can't rescue a weak mark.

Making it yourself

Download the SVG, open it in a design tool such as Figma, Illustrator, Inkscape or Canva, and set your brand name next to it. Because each mark is a single-colour vector, you can resize and recolour it without losing quality.
